Pleased to announce that I have been selected as a finalist for the Transatlantyk Film Music Competition in Łódź, Poland. As part of the festival and competition, my original scores from two films will be screened for an audience and an international panel of celebrated composers (past years have included festival founder and Academy-award winning composer Jan A.P. Kaczmarek, John Debney, Christopher Young, John Ottman, Marco Beltrami, Mark Isham, amongst others). The festival’s special guest this year will be actor Edward Norton.
In Pursuit of Silence is awarded Best Score at the 2016 Scruffy City Film and Music Festival in Knoxville. The film also takes home Best Sound Design by Steve Bissinger (House of Cards, Transformers, Cloverfield). The soundtrack is now available for pre-order: a double album featuring the original score plus 10 recordings of silent spaces captured around the world during the making of the film.
A glowing review from the Huffington Post of In Pursuit of Silence, with a nod to the composer:
“…even a film about silence has a soundtrack, which if handled poorly could really seem jarring or intrusive. Thankfully, composer Alex Lu’s gentle and understated music provides a graceful counterpoint to the ambient sounds throughout.”
